Along the Admiral's Coast Scenic Route before reaching the town of Brigus on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland, Canada, visitors can stop at the information sign and read about the area. Brigus is a small fishing community in Conception Bay which once relied on fishing as a major source income. Still considered to be a fishing town, but cod is not the main catch, it is now mostly crab or scallops.
Situated about 80 kilometers from St. John's, Newfoundland, many residents in Brigus commute back and forth to work. There are approximately 700 people who permanently reside in this picturesque town and visitors to Brigus can explore many historic sites dating back to the 1700's which lie amongst the winding, narrow streets.
