On the grounds of the National Gallery of Canada in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, a giant bronze spider named Maman, was erected during May of 2005. The spider sculpture is the artwork of Louise Bourgeois which stands at a height of 30 feet with a sac full of 26 white marble eggs planted under her belly.
The size and beauty of this spider sculpture will make the Maman an important landmark for the National Gallery of Canada for years to come.
Louise Bourgeois first showed her artwork in 1936, at the age of 25 and her work has continued to be shown in various places around the world. The Maman was made in 1999 and it was in 2003 when it was cast.
