The history of the uniforms of the RCMP dates back many years and during the Sargeant Major's Parade and Graduation Ceremony at the RCMP Academy in the City of Regina, Saskatchewan, one can see various styles. The RCMP are well known for their dress uniform, the scarlet tunic, dark breeches with a yellow strip running down the leg, the Sam Browne belt with the cross shoulder strap, brown riding boots, brown gloves and the brown Stetson hat.
These uniforms are of the standard British military pattern with the Stetson hat being adopted in 1904 and the modern day brown boots being changed from black riding boots.
Members of the RCMP Academy have everyday uniforms which consist of grey shirts, dark blue pants, ankle boots and a cap. These are similar to the members marching in the backdrop of this picture.
