While driving along the Lighthouse Route in Nova Scotia, Canada, tourists have made Peggy's Cove Lighthouse at St. Margaret's Bay one of the most photographed in the world. Standing on the large flattened boulders along the coastal shore of St. Margaret's Bay since 1915, the lighthouse is a concrete white octagon with a red painted lantern on top. The lantern was once white in colour but in 1969, it was changed to red.
There are many beliefs as to why the lighthouse is named Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. A few of them being that it was because Margaret is another name for Peggy, another because it stands near St. Margaret's Bay, others believe it was named after an early settler named Peggy and lastly because a woman whose name was Peggy was believed to be the only remaining survivor of a shipwreck in these waters. ... continue below the picture...
